Welcome, I’m so glad you’re here! I’m Rachel. So, here’s a little about my Maternal Mental Health journey so far. I started my training to become a therapist long before having my first baby. I knew that connecting and helping others was what I wanted to do with my life. After I began my graduate training to become a therapist, unexpectedly we were expecting! She was welcomed, loved and so wanted.

Even so, like so many other parents I experienced severe perinatal depression and anxiety myself. It went untreated for years, at the time people weren’t quite ready to talk about this, understand Perinatal Mood & Anxiety disorders, and how it looks different for every parent. As you can see, a therapist is no more immune than anyone else! After seeking my own treatment and counseling, and coming out the other side, I knew there was a huge gap that needed to be filled for new parents silently struggling like I did, feeling there was nowhere to turn. Most of it felt like trial by fire.

There is such a huge need in our community for trained professionals to help treat and address the challenges that come with having a baby, at any stage. This is when I knew specializing in Perinatal Mood & Anxiety Disorders would become my life’s work and passion to serve that need for so many other parents who feel alone in their suffering.

While I was finishing graduate school, I sought out experiences to immerse myself in serving this specialized population. I completed my graduate internship year treating clients at a local hospital from the OB/GYN Specialty Clinic. There I was trained with a foundation and understanding of the difficulties that new parents face, and how best to serve and meet their needs as clients. My training was multi-faceted, offering so much more experience than simply conducting face to face therapy sessions in an office, My training also included conducting risk assessment and therapy interventions in the OB Clinic, encouraging parents during scary times in the High Risk clinics, supporting clients in the Ultrasound room, holding hope with my client sitting in the NICU, providing direct bedside support from the Labor & Delivery, sitting side by side with the bereaved parents, and communicating with the entire care team every step of the process. I knew I was home with this work. From there my passion has continued to grow to serve new parents during every step of the journey. Though your life and story is unique, you’re certainly not alone. ♡
